The kind of book that kids love, full of nonsensical barbs, and smart-mouthed conversation.

That what this reviewer thinks of Robert Favretto's hillarious book, CAT-astrophe.

CAT-ASTROPHE
by Robert Favretto, Illustrated by Kevin Burgemeestre
Reviewed by Anastasia Gonis

This chapter book for younger readers is clever and entertaining due to the marvellous play on words that is used throughout, and the terrific illustrations produced by the multi-talented Kevin Burgemeestre. It’s the kind of book kids love to read – full of nonsensical barbs, and smart-mouthed conversation. It comes highly recommended for reluctant readers.

Rhys has detention for not showing interest in his Writing
assignment. Bored out of his head and with not even a floating thought of what to write about, a ball comes through the widow, shattering both his thoughts and the glass. A brilliant idea enters his head, breaking his  day-dream.

The story flows through him at great speed. It takes on a   peculiar, detailed form. It includes the class suck-up Alex, and Alex’s  well-known, over-used story about the fish that got away, and an incredible but  hilarious cat tale with a strange twist.

Available at your local bookstore, from our bookshop, and on your favourite online store. Select the cover to go to the books page and learn more.

What a refreshing read!
A combination of the old and new, incorporating a clever storyline with some humorous bantering and one-upmanship.
I can't wait to read the sequel . . .CAT-apault.
Well done Rob.

Fifteen minutes well spent with this wonderful romp through Rob Favretto's world of word play - the master of the simile Rob has come up with another winner. Well done.

Absolutely loved the book!
I do CRT work and read it to a grade 5 at Rye Primary school. There was not enough time to finish it before lunch, so I asked the children if they would like me to continue reading it while they did quiet project work on 'getting along'. The answer was yes of course.
As I read, wandering around the room, I noticed a group of boys sitting, not working. Jake said could he please just focus on the story. With a smile and a nod of my head, they sat and listened. Once finished, the boys and rest of the grade said how good the story was, the descriptions ... oh my goodness me, what a neighbor, what excitement with the cat! Anyway, Jake asked if he could write a letter to Mr. Favretto. As he had finished his work I said why not. With 5 minutes to go, Jake showed me his letter and I said I would get it to Dromana Primary School, where Mr. Favretto works. He was so excited because guess what? Jake loves writing.
Apparently Mr. Favretto received the letter and faxed through a reply and invitation to CATastrophe's book launch at the Rosebud Library. Jake, his mother and sister all went and met Mr. Favretto who kindly said that the letter made his day, however Jake said that Mr. Favretto had made his day and has inspired him to do more writing. Hurry up with the sequel CATapult! I want to be the first to read it to that lovely grade 5 at Rye PS. Thank you Mr. Favretto. By the way, I have also purchased the book and take it to every school I go to!

Hi Suzanne. Thank you for your appreciation of Robert's book and for sharing it. Jake certainly did make Robert's day. I'm glad he got to go to the launch. Robert will be putting out another book later in the year and I’m sure the kids will love it just as much.

Cheers

CAT-astrophe is a favourite read in our household. My kids love the story and often request to listen to it again and again. The humorous and entertaining use of words and phrases really bring this engaging story to life. I would highly recommend this book to all families and classrooms.
