A Rabbit's Tale
by Sally de Gruchy, illustrated by Kat Buchanan

The young rabbit, Ralfie, struggles through his daily activities due to stress and anxiety.

His fear becomes overwhelming and unbearable, so he decides to run away from his normal life. On his way he meets different animals who each give him strategies to navigate his anxiety.

At the end of his journey, Ralfie sees a fellow rabbit in distress and shares what he’s learned to calm her down.

With the new guidance he’s received, Ralfie now has the courage to return home and face his fears.

Review comment:

This book is perfect for anyone who struggles with anxiety. It’s written so beautifully with rhymes and rhythm and the illustrations are gorgeous.

Review by Glee Books Sydney:

Gentle but excited cuddles for these gorgeous sisters who dropped in to sign copies of their wonderful picture book, A Rabbit’s Tale. 🐇🧘⛰

This is a really lovely tale of Ralfie, who feeling overwhelmed by everything decides to run away. On his journey, he meets a cast of very helpful characters who show him 3 mini mindfulness techniques to calm his nerves, harness awareness and choose empowering thoughts. It is an adventurous story full of practical tools to help remind kids (and adults) how to be more present and how to approach those nasty, negative thoughts… but not in a cheesy, preachy way (kids are your toughest audience and run a mile if they know they are being taught a lesson)

Sally de Gruchy has a background in psychology, primary teaching, is a mum to 2 kids and is passionate about sharing her skills to empower kids to look after their minds. Her sister Kat Buchanan, who did the gorgeous illustrations is also an architect and designer who is inspired by the natural world.

We found this book really helpful in reinforcing some simple strategies to deal with the anxiety and panic that has crept into our household over the last couple of years.

Thanks Sally, Kat (and Ralfie) for reminding us to breathe, focus our minds and sing!

Signed copies of A Rabbit’s Tale available in store or check out Sally’s Insta @daily_practise for more great mindfulness tips.
